old 97's, vol 1
so i spent the weekend in dallas. this might be interesting news to some people who know who they are. (whom they are?) anyway, i went to see the old 97's at the gypsy tea room. now, i've loved the old 97's for a long time. and i thought i knew their music pretty well, have all their songs memorized, etc etc. well, i guess i hadn't been paying close enough attention really, cause i didn't notice how many bleak and depressing phrases were littered about in their lyrics. if you don't know this band, you should really check them out. if you do, you might, like me, be confused. whatchoo talking 'bout, willis? the old 97's being depressing. oh yeah. take a gander.

"i've thought so much about suicide, parts of me have already died"
-lonely

"i hope you crash your momma's car; i hope you pass out in some bar; i hope you catch some kinda flu; let's say i wish the worst for you."
-wish the worst

"if my heart was a car, you would have stripped it a long time ago"
-if my heart was a car

"and i cried so much it dug a rut they call the rio grande"
-west texas teardrops

"and it's hard to tell if life is a burden or a gift"
-over the cliff

"every other day is like a kick in the shins; every other day it's like the day just wins"
-rollerskate skinny

"so i sidled up beside, settled down, and shouted, 'hi there! my name's stuart ransom miller, i'm a siller lady killer.' she said, 'i'm already dead.' that's exactly what she said."
-barrier reef

"the end is coming soon, not soon enough"
-big brown eyes

and the list goes on. now you're soured. you won't go listen to them will you. *sigh* always self-destructive am i. maybe i've been listening to too much old 97's?!?!?!
