what magnolia had for lunch and other tales of christmas fun

perhaps she's a bit young for crayons.

anyway, we had a big christmas-filled weekend and it was great fun. friday night we went to a sing-along which was too funny. magnolia was mesmerized by this old lady who sang way too loud in her old-lady-in-the-choir type of voice. you know the kind i'm talking about. and apparently this lady wasn't too fond of children, cause she about broke her make-up mask forcing herself to smile tersley at the wee one. scrooge. but mags couldn't have cared less. she just ran around and danced in her goofy little baby way and learned to clap after every song.

saturday morning we took her to the kids' party at my work. there were approximately seventy-five thousand children there, all running, all yelling, all hyped on sugar. and oddly enough, it didn't horrify me. it was extremely well-organized and i was really impressed at the lengths they had gone to (and let's be honest, the money they had spent) to make it fun for the kiddos. the cops were there fingerprinting the kids (god i hope we never need that ... and i'm not just worried about her being lost!) of course santa was there, but it wasn't just some welfare mall santa, either. he had a really beautiful santa outfit that looked like real velvet, full sleigh, and he gave every single kid a present. mags got some dress-up jewelry. i swear she's going to be so freaking girly unless i have some sort of tomboy intervention, and fast. they took a polaroid of your kid looking terrified on santa's lap and then you could decorate a little frame for it with glitter and stickers and stamps and stuff. they had about twenty pinatas, a bowling game, a toss-the-ring-onto-the-reindeer-antlers game, a football throw ... you name it. and they gave prizes for every freaking one. they even had little craft tables where you could make a bead bracelet or decorate a stocking. it was pretty damned cool. of course, all magnolia did was run around and scream and try to pinch the other children. her own brand of holiday fun, i guess.

she did a bit better that night at fu and squeeks' first annual dirty santa extravaganza. we had a lovely christmasy time with k, j and their little sammy. what a doll. the dynamic duo had their new house all decked out for the holiday. it looked great. and the "traditional" christmas dinner of indian tacos? delicious! i've been craving them ever since! they got magnolia the coolest fisher price play set, which i didn't realize at the time includes a mini-van and a bunch of girls doing girly things like swinging, having a tea party and pushing baby dolls in strollers! is it a CONSPIRACY to make my child ultra-girly?!?! she loved the shit out of it and squeeks and fu should NOT have done that. oh well, you can't stop squeeks when she's got baby shopping on her mind. don't even try. the kids had a grand old time together, too. sammy pulled magnolia's hair, and she hit him in the head with a little people. i guess all's fair in love and fisher price.

so that rounds out the weekend. it was great fun and i'm all in the christmas mood and shit. so there.
