it is hot. nasty southern hot. and it's been raining for weeks. and rain + hot = steam. ewww. oh and also, blood-sucking mosquitoes the size of my head. there is no going outside. except last night i found something almost powerful enough to overwhelm the blood-suckers. magnolia and i stepped outside for just a minute just after dusk to let the dog out, and that's when we saw them ... hundreds and hundreds of fireflies ... it was so beautiful. i don't remember the last time we've had such a peaceful and awestruck moment like that together. we just sat silently in the lawn chair, her on my lap with one arm draped around my neck and her eyes open as wide as they could go, trying to keep up with all the little flashes of light. every so often she'd turn back and look up at me with sheer wonder in those enormous brown eyes. when squarepants talks about the moments she's going to miss ... that ranks riiiight up there. in other news ... um ... i'm having trouble thinking of other news. let's see. jerm's back with the magnificent 7. thank god. any idea what it's like to live with a musician who's not actually in a band? it's hell. but now all better cause he's all happy-drummer guy again. oh and i discovered something really fun. going out for lunch and having several glasses of wine, then coming back to work and trying to do this 2-ton truck manual i'm supposed to be editing. as if. "how do u shpel ackss-ull?" so i'm thinking i might do that again today. it's friday after all. and on a final note, i want to formally welcome emerson, thomas, sadie and carter to the world. lots of new beautiful babies, lots of tired mommmies and daddies. new playmates for magnolia. one of these days. got to get them a little sturdier before i turn her loose on them. i've seen her shake the living hell out of a cabbage patch kid ... i'm not sure DHS would approve.
