baby kong
baby kong

alright, i suppose i'm due for a "real" entry, so i will tell you about last night.

my super-sweet husband spent the whole afternoon baking a very special cake for my birthday. now, this cake is really difficult to describe ... and you kinda have to know jerm to get it, but ... well, he wanted to make me a 'baby' cake, since i am, as they say, 'great with child' and could drop this kid any minute. however, he had some trouble finding a cake pan in the shape of a baby. not to be deterred, he improvised, using a teddy bear cake pan ... and cutting off its teddy bear ears. but while taking the cake out of the pan, some pieces got ripped off and mangled. (have you ever tried extracting a cake from one of those complicated mo-fos? it ain't easy.) so in trying to put the pieces back together, he got the idea that maybe if he frosted the cake while it was warm, the icing would soak in and sort of weld the broken pieces of cake together. (i think we can all see where this is going.) so, he mixed up what was purported to be 'peachy pink' food coloring with his white icing. what he got was not the flesh tone he was clearly going for. but he proceeded to attempt to ice and decorate the hot cake anyway.

the result? the most beautiful and hilarious and endearing bright-sunburned pink baby with huge teddy bear feet and a very saggy-looking white-icing diaper cake you have ever seen in your life! and he had put all these little plastic babies and little plastic baby bottles all around and on the cake. it looked like some massive kong of a baby with all the mere mortal babies worshipping around it. and it also looked a bit like cartman, somehow ... i swear i nearly cried when i saw the thing. score another one for true love.
